"We turned up at Thruxton and it was dry, so thats already an improvement over Brands Hatch! Following the disaster that was the previous round I decided that some pretty dramatic changes to the bike were needed. Last year and going into this season we've listen to what other people had said about bike set-up and followed their advice... clearly this hadn't worked for me. It was now time to make some changes based on what I felt I needed to get the bike handling the way that I wanted it to. We completely changed the suspension set-up and imediately the bike felt much better... so much so that I could set the 2nd fastest time in the opening practice session. For the first time on the Triumph I could actually feel what the tyre was doing when I was on the throttle with the bike on its side! The rain returned for qualifying but in two dry races I manged to improve on my grid position each time out and really enjoyed racing the bike again. I should have pushed a little harder in the middle of race 2 as my lap times towards the end where quicker than the guys in front. I feel we made some big steps with the bike's set-up this weekend and now I need to carry the momentum on to future rounds and hopefully improve even further" |
