Ben's Comments

“What a weekend! Talk about on and off weather… one minute its dry and the next the track is soaked where its just bucketed down! The bike felt pretty good from the first practice session, with us only having to make a couple of minor suspension changes. The biggest problem was trying to dodge the rain! I’ve always struggled with the Knockhill layout… it’s a track that doesn’t really suit my riding style. Qualifying went ok, but it was in the morning warm-up on race day that things really came together. In the wet I started to ride really well and ended up 11th fastest overall… which gave me real confidence for the races. In Race 1 I got a really good start and was up inside the top 10 at the end of the first lap! I felt really relaxed and was holding my position until about lap 5 when a guy crashed right infront of me at the hairpin and I had nowhere to go. I hit his bike which took me down and unfortunately the guy behind me couldn’t avoid hitting me while I was skidding across the tarmac on my back! I hurt my shoulder and unfortunately the bike was too badly damaged to repair it in time for the second race. It was only after we had packed up and left the track that we found out they had cancelled the second race due to adverse weather conditions and planned a re-run at Donington Park later in the season. That was great news as it meant that I could take part in that race so had not lost out so badly. It was still frustrating though… because I know I could have finished inside the top 10 had I not been taken out!”
